New Orleans reverses course, legalizes short-term rentals

New ordinance recognizes importance of short-term rentals to local economy, walks back blanket ban

The Travel Technology Association (Travel Tech), released the following statement following the approval of new short-term rental regulations by the New Orleans City Council:

“We are pleased to see Mayor Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council legalize short-term rentals, recognizing the preferences of modern travelers and the value the marketplace brings to New Orleans residents and business owners,” said Matt Kiessling, VP of short-term rental policy at Travel Tech.  “This ordinance acknowledges that blanket bans on short-term rentals are misguided and ineffective.  While we believe the prohibition in the French Quarter is unnecessary and caps on second-homes arbitrary, the new regulations are an encouraging step in the right direction.”
